Youth Engagement Specialist (Part-Time)

Position Title: Youth Engagement Specialist

Department: Program

Reports To: Associate Director, Programs & Club Operations

Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

Hours: Monday - Friday, 3p - 8p

The Youth Engagement Specialist is responsible for implementing nationally recognized programs created by Boys & Girls Clubs of America while promoting and encouraging program participation and engagement. Develop and execute developmentally appropriate content, while managing behavior and responding to both the social and intellectual needs of Club members. Provide a positive customer service experience for all members, staff, parents and volunteers. Creates Great Futures for young people in Columbus!

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Customer Service:

  • Demonstrate high levels of enthusiasm towards Club members, parents, and visitors; offer exceptional customer service experience at all times;
  • Conduct weekly outreach calls to connect with families about Club opportunities;
  • Engage volunteers in program area.

Professionalism:

  • Follow all organization-wide policies, procedures, and standards with regard to upkeep, usage, and maintenance of club spaces, materials, and equipment
  • Model and encourage positive behavior and interactions between members;
  • Represent Boys & Girls Clubs of Columbus appropriately;
  • Attend and participate in weekly Club meetings to discuss relevant data, outcomes, and organization-wide information;
  • Maintain close and consistent contact with Associate Director of Program and Club Operations.

Fun & Intentional Programming:

  • Build positive and appropriate relationships with members;
  • Enforce member expectations at all times;
  • Maintain a program that is safe, positive, and encourages youth development through quality experiences and high standards of achievement;
  • Plan and implement engaging activities that support the needs of all members and align with specific outcomes;
  • Promote the development of social and emotional skills;
  • Manage classroom conduct and exhibit problem-solving skills needed to redirect behavior;
  • Maintain daily and monthly attendance records during programming;
  • Maintain a program area schedule that satisfies the diverse interests and abilities of Club members; ensure programming is age-appropriate;
  • Facilitate monthly/quarterly recruitment activities to increase Club visibility and enrollment.

Staff Engagement:

  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and training opportunities;
  • Meet all staff expectations ad standards as outlined by Associate Director of Programs & Club Operations.

Club Appearance:

  • Maintain a clean, welcoming, and visually attractive program space; update displays and overall program space regularly;
  • Assist with the maintenance of Club facility as needed.

Data Tracking & Utilization:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in Learning Circle, DESSA, and Visions Member Tracking Systems;
  • Attend and participate in meetings to discuss the utilization of data related to Club programming.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • May oversee special programs and/or events (i.e. Youth of the Year, Keystone, etc.);
  • Work with staff on special events and/or events in other departments;
  • Assume other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 1 year of work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the
  • developmental needs of young people;
  • Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents and community leaders;
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written;
  • Ability to provide exceptional community service experiences.
 
Physical Requirements of Work Environment:
  • Ability to work in an office environment;
  • Ability to work in a Club environment with possible extended periods of movement and engagement with members and staff;
  • Ability to do light to moderate lifting.
